On July 17, Wednesday, MLA Bacchu Kadu along with various organisations staged a protest against Mumbai University. The protest was held by Bacchu Kadu and members of Prahar Organisation after there was no proper response by the university to the issues faced by disabled students. 

Thousands of supporters had joined the protest at Mumbai University where the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA handed over his Memorandum of appeal to Mumbai University's Vice-Chancellor.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Prahar Organisation's advocate Ajay Tapkir stated that if the demands aren't met by August 15, they will protest by celebrating in the Mumbai University campus.

What are the demands?

  • Temporary staff must be immediately employed as per December 2018 orders by Education Minister
  • Colleges allowing more than 50 per cent minority reservation must be revoked of minority college status
  • Stop the growing number of autonomous colleges
  • Stop caste discrimination in degree colleges and take action against defaulters as per University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines
  • Make facilities available for disabled students at Mumbai University campus as per the Rights of Person with Disability Act
