Hansraj Singh from BJP and Sunil Shinde from Shiv Sena have been elected unopposed in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections for two seats in Mumbai, reported the news agency ANI.

On January 1 next year, the office term of eight sitting members of the Maharashtra Legislative Council is set to expire. Thus, from November 16 onwards, the procedure of nomination commenced.

Certain accounts claim that the election is important for the MVA government since it will enable it to augment its strength because the Governor, in spite of the recommendation from the cabinet, hasn’t cleared a file.

This file sent last year is regarding the nomination of 12 people from his quota in the state council. According to reports, based on the Election Commission of India’s release, elections will be conducted for one seat each in areas that include Kolhapur, Dhule cum Nandurbar, Akola cum Buldhana cum Washim and Nagpur.

This was accompanied by two seats in Mumbai. Presently, the sitting members whose terms are going to expire in the island city are Ramdas Kadam from the Shiv Sena and Bhai Jagtap from Congress.

Apart from them, in Kolhapur, the sitting member is Satej Patil from Congress, in Dhule cum Nandurbar is Amrishbhai Patil, in Akola cum Buldhana cum Washim is Gopikisan Bajoriya from Shiv Sena and in Nagpur from the BJP is Girish Vyas.
