Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday slammed the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government while alleging that the state government was “threatening” the people in the name of curbing the spread of coronavirus (or COVID-19). 

In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray earlier stated that the lockdown will be implemented in the entire state if required. 

Maharashtra Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab announced in the assembly that the ongoing budget session has been cut short by a week and will conclude on March 14. 

Reacting to this, Thackeray said that imposing restrictions is creating panic among citizens while adding that there was need no take care but mortality rate due to other reasons than the coronavirus is much more in the country.

While addressing a gathering in Aurangabad, Thackeray said that so many diseases already exist in the country, it doesn’t matter if one more has joined the list. 

“So many diseases already exist in the country. It doesn’t matter if one more named coronavirus has joined the list. However, we need to take care,” Raj Thackeray said. 

Thackeray was speaking at an event organised in Aurangabad on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti. 

“Many people have asked me about the spread of coronavirus and procession taken out on Shiv Jayanti. I said many diseases already exist in our country. One more got added to it, there is no big deal,” MNS chief Raj Thackeray said. 

The Maharashtra government celebrates the Shiv Jayanti on February 19 every year. However, as per the Hindu calendar, Shiv Jayanti falls on a different date each year. 

Till now, 16 cases of novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Maharashtra. Amid this, there have been speculations that the recent IPL Tournament might be postponed. Talking about the same the Chief Minister said that no such proposal has come in front of them as yet and if it does they will act upon it according to the situation at hand.
