Maharashtra Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, and the Chief of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Raj Thackeray, recently met for in a closed-door discussion at Thackeray’s residence stirring speculations in the political circuit. As per reports, the meeting went on for over an hour on Saturday, October 15, 2022, and it was being said that matters related to public health were discussed.

Confirming the same and clarifying the speculations, the CM took to Twitter with a message that read, “MNS chief Raj Thackeray had a meeting with me over the issues related to public health. He made some suggestions to strengthen the public health system in the state.

Reports also state that issues regarding recovery of property tax in Pune and sending notices to citizens with retrospective effect were also brought up whereby Thackeray sought CM’s intervention to stop the same.

Officials also confirmed that several entrepreneurs accompanied Raj in this meeting and also spoke about newer ways of diagnosis. Offers were made regarding setting up newer systems for the testing which can be achieved efficiently in a short period. CM has assured that these suggestions will be given consideration.

Having said this, not much has been known about the detailed discussion in the meeting and neither party have revealed anything about the same. Reports from the faction, in the past, revealed party’s interest in seeking MNS’ support for the Andheri byelection, as the constituency has over 100,000 Marathi-speaking voters and MNS’ appeal could prove to be beneficial for BJP candidate, Murji Patel.

However, on Monday, October 17, 2022, BJP withdrew its candidate from the Andheri East bypoll where Patel was pitted against Rujuta Latke of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. The decision was taken after Raj Thackeray advised BJP not to field the candidate and contest the East Andheri bypoll.

Confirming the same officially, Maharashtra party chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, said, “Murji Patel, who filed the nomination from the BJP for the elections has decided to withdraw and the party will not be contesting the Andheri East bypoll.”

The elections are scheduled to be held on November 3, 2022, and the results would be revealed by November 6, 2022.
