Maharashtra Assembly polls: MNS party demands 20 seats from BJP

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray is aiming to make a mark in the upcoming assembly elections.


The MNS has started discussions with the BJP regarding seat allocation for the upcoming assembly elections. It is believed that the MNS has demanded 20 Assembly seats in the state, comprising Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) area.

The seats sought by the MNS include Worli, Dadar-Mahim, Shivri, Magathane, Dindoshi, Jogeshwari, Versova, Ghatkopar West, Chembur, Thane, Bhiwandi Rural, Kalyan Rural, Nashik East, Wani, Pandharpur, Aurangabad Central, Pune and one seat. Raj Thackeray aims to take on Shiv Sena (UBT). Sources suggest that MNS chief and his confidant, Sandeep Deshpande, are likely to face off against Aditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, in the Worli assembly constituency.


Meanwhile, MNS’s Nitin Sardesai will contest from Dadar-Mahim and Shalini Thackeray will contest from Versova. The MNS will challenge the BJP for the Legislative Council elections that will take place on June 26. MNS has announced Marathi filmmaker and party leader Abhijit Panse as its candidate from Konkan Graduate Constituency for the upcoming elections.
