Dadar’s iconic Shivaji Park is in high demand for a rally on November 17 with Maharashtra's Assembly elections around the corner. The turf has always been a flashpoint in the race of political dominance.
The Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, were vying for the ground for their closing rallies ahead of the assembly polls, which are scheduled for November 20. This is owing to the ending of the campaign on November 18 at 5 pm as per the model code of conduct.
However, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, known for its historic rallies at this iconic ground, has been left high and dry with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) securing the ground for their November 17 rally.
As per reports, MNS, which had applied days before Shiv Sena, secured permission on a “first come, first served” basis, marking a symbolic victory for the party.
The date, November 17, holds emotional weight: it is the death anniversary of Balasaheb Thackeray, Uddhav’s father and Shiv Sena’s founder, who historically gathered Shiv Sainiks on the ground.
Earlier four parties -- the Shiv Sena, Sena (UBT), BJP and MNS -- made applications to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for hosting rallies at the ground that day.
Accordingly, the civic body gave permission to Sena led by Eknath Shinde to hold its rally at the ground on November 10, BJP on November 12, and NCP on November 14, reports stated.
