Even as the state government has tightened restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus infection, overcrowding has been witnessed at some places. Moreover, people are also seen flouting COVID-related protocols. If people continue to violate the norms, the government will have no option other than to impose a complete lockdown, said Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh.

While talking to the media, Aslam Sheikh said that the coronavirus has been spreading rapidly in Maharashtra for the last few weeks. One of the major reasons for the surge in daily new coronavirus cases is that people are becoming lazy towards following Covid-appropriate behaviour. Everything is still under control but pointed lapses, including casual behaviour and carelessness, happens to be the cause behind the surge.

“Lockdown is opposed everywhere. Wherever lockdown has been implemented in the world, people have opposed lockdown. This option is not pleasant even for the government. But saving lives is the most important thing. This is our priority. If the situation does not improve, a final decision will have to be taken,” said Aslam Shaikh.

He also said that since new rules have been imposed just two days ago, people are still not aware of the SOPs. Hence, he urged people to take up awareness campaigns to re-instil the importance of such measures among the masses.
