After the successful completion of signal test and instrument landing system test conducted by Airport Authority of India on the first runway at Navi Mumbai International Airport, on October 5, in the presence of the country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the move to test the fighter jet (Sukhoi) of the Air Force at the airport has gained momentum.
The official announcement in this regard was made by CIDCO Chairman Sanjay Shirsat in a press conference held at CIDCO Bhavan on Tuesday. CIDCO Chairman Shirsat inspected the Navi Mumbai International Airport project on Tuesday. Expectations are high that the first flight will take place from Navi Mumbai International Airport in the next six months.
As the Code of Conduct for Legislative Assembly elections is likely to be implemented in the state, CIDCO President Shirsat has been in charge of CIDCO for a very short time, so he has planned to review every department. President Shirsat, while briefing the press on Tuesday, said that the government intends to open the airport for regional traffic in the month of March after the first Air Force aircraft successfully landed on the runway in the presence of the Prime Minister on October 5.
After that, Adani Group and CIDCO Board are going to plan that international flights should take off from the runway of this airport in the month of June. Due to this airport, there will be a big contribution in the development of the state along with Navi Mumbai and this airport is capable of handling 3500 aircraft at a time in Navi Mumbai International Airport. Also, this airport has four different terminals and since these four terminals are interconnected, the passengers will have the option of an internal travel route to go from one terminal to another.

It will be the only airport to be connected to various routes in the country by providing different transport options like the coastal route along with roads to reach the airport for the passengers and in the future metro and bullet train. There are two runways in the airport and the work of the first runway is almost completed and earlier various tests have been conducted on this runway. Correspondence has been sent to the Air Force regarding which aircraft of the Air Force will come for testing in the month of October, but still CIDCO has not given information about which aircraft will come.
It is the first greenfield international airport in the country on an area of 1160 hectares and is being constructed in two phases. The airport can handle 90 million passengers and 2.5 lakh metric tons of cargo every year. There will be two parallel runways for separate movement of aircraft and two parallel taxiways with full length of fifteen – fifteen meter width. So the journey from the airport to the plane will be smooth. The mistakes made during the construction of Mumbai Airport have been rectified here. This airport is being developed through public private partnership and the responsibility of development of the airport is on the concessionaire company 'NMIAL'.
“The Navi Mumbai International Airport project being implemented by CIDCO is an important project from a national perspective. This project will contribute to the development of the state and the country along with Navi Mumbai. The progress of project work is satisfactory. Instructions have also been given to the concerned to complete the works within the time frame for speedy implementation of the project. Due to this, the aircraft will fly from here soon.” Sanjay Shirsat, Chairman, CIDCO Board.
