Amid the excitement among mainstream media channels with Rafale’s entry, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar rejected the perception that these fighter jets will be game-changer and would increase China’s worries.

“The entry of Rafale fighter jets in the Indian Army is certainly important from the point of view of national security. However, the perception that it will increase China’s worries or induction of these jets will be a game-changer is wrong,” he said.

Pawar further said that China’s military strength is far greater and India can’t compare the same with it. However, there is no doubt that China is taking India’s defence prowess seriously, he added.

“China’s military strength is much greater than ours and we can’t compare ourselves with them in that respect. If you have 10 fighter jets, they have thousands. There is no doubt that China is taking India’s defence prowess seriously But I don’t think Rafale’s entry will increase China’s worries,” Pawar, former Union Defence Minister said.

He further informed that the decision to induct Rafale aircrafts is old and was initiated by Congress. However, the agreement came to fruition during the Narendra Modi government, Pawar said while adding that there is no question of taking credit or arguing over it.

Five new Rafale fighter jets landed in Ambala on July 29 in he first phase, according to the agreement. Ambala Air Force Base in India will be the permanent base of Rafale jets.
