Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray requesting him to allow the opening of gyms. There has been a growing demand to reopen the gyms in the state as many are facing huge losses due to the lockdown.

Although the shops have been allowed to operate all days in a week, the Maharashtra government has not allowed the gyms and fitness clubs to reopen amid the coronavirus outbreak. This has resulted in a complete standstill of this business for over five months.

Sule asserted that many gym businesses have invested heavily by taking loans and are finding it difficult to survive. She urged the Chief Minister to consider the opening of gyms under ‘Mission Begin Again’.

In a letter, Sule was informed about the problems being faced by the gym's owners. Ramdas Ingle, a resident of Bhandup, said that they had to shut their gym due to the lockdown and are facing financial troubles in managing their rent, bills and EMIs.

Earlier, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray had also appealed the Chief Minister to allow the gyms to reopen in the state. Leader of Opposition (LoP) Devendra Fadnavis also urged the state government to allow gyms to operate.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar has also been demanding the Maharashtra government to pace the unlocking process as the restrictions are affecting the small businesses.
