Hours after Sunil Tatkare was disqualified as the Member of Lok Sabha by NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, the rebel Ajit Pawar's faction has appointed him as the new state president of the party.
In a statement, Praful Patel said that the responsibility was given to Jayant Patil but he has been removed, and will be replaced by Tatkare.
"We had appointed Jayant Patil and given him responsibility of Maharashtra president of NCP. Today I have officially informed him that we are removing him from the post of state president. And I appoint Sunil Tatkare as the new Maharashtra state president for NCP," Patel said during the press conference on Monday evening, July 3.
On the other hand, Ajit Pawar has been unanimously elected as the leader of the legislature party. "We have informed Maharashtra Assembly Speaker about our decision," Patel added.
Meanwhile, Sunil Tatkare shared: "I have taken over as the state president of the Nationalist Congress Party. I will strengthen the party in Maharashtra. I have taken into confidence all leaders of the party. I have also called a meeting of all the legislators and zila parishad leaders."
Moreover, Anil Bhaidas Patil appointed chief whip of NCP in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
Besides, Shinde faction Shiv Sena, BJP and Ajit Pawar's NCP alliance is named 'Mahayuti', the party leaders confirmed.
These statements were made at a press conference held by Ajit Pawar at Sahyadri guest house in Mumbai, a day after swearing in as the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra with support from 8 MLAs of the Nationalist Congress Party.
He further stated that NCP name and symbol belong to us as they have majority of MLAs. On being asked about who will be NCP national president now, Pawar remarked: "Have you forgotten that Sharad Pawar is the party's national president?"
