Since February, the number of COVID-19 cases has spiked in Mumbai and Thane. As a result, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had imposed various restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.

Despite that, it is being observed that the citizens have been flouting the COVID-related protocols.

Moreover, it was also witnessed that last week, high-profile nightclubs in Mumbai were seen violating the COVID-19 protocols and social distancing norms.

In context to that, on Tuesday, March 9, Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh has hinted that nightclubs in the city may be closed soon if the rate of increase in the number of patients remains the same. He also stated that it is possible that a night curfew may be imposed in the city.

Action is being taken against people who do not wear masks. Besides, it may be decided to close crowded places like Chowpatty and Gateway.

A day before, Shaikh had also warned of a lockdown or night curfew in the city soon. The local administration has been ordered to impose strict restrictions on areas where corona cases are on the rise.

Meanwhile, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has imposed a lockdown in hotspot areas from Tuesday till March 31. So far, 16 areas have been identified as hotspots in Thane. Activities will be allowed in areas outside hotspots as per relaxation given under Mission Begin Again by the Maharashtra government.
