Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said that Congress doesn’t have any problem with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) demand to accord Veer Savarkar with Bharat Ratna.

However, the senior Congress leader said that they have always been against Savarkar’s ideology of Hindutva.

The Congress party has no objection with Bharat Ratna being accorded to Savarkar. Even Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi issued a stamp in respect of Savarkar. However, the party has always stood against his Hindutva ideology,” said Dr Manmohan Singh.

In its manifesto, Maharashtra BJP has demanded Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar who is known as the father of Hindutva ideology.

While addressing the gathering in Mumbai, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed his and Congress’ view on several issues including the removal of Article 370 (special status to Jammu and Kashmir).

Congress had voted in favour to remove Article 370 and did not boycott the same in Lok Sabha," said the senior Congress leader.

The former PM expressed concern over the ongoing economic slowdown saying that it has badly affected Maharashtra with the shut down of several industries and every third person being unemployed.
