With the increasing use of social media by the political parties, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has put some restrictions related to the same. Political parties use social media platforms to put ads without any limitations. However, now the political parties will have to get their ads verified before EC.

Meanwhile, the EC informed Bombay High Court that it will issue directions prohibiting all social media platforms from running political advertisements. This decision has been taken to curb the wrong use of social media during the elections. The EC informed the Bombay HC regarding its proposed pre-verification rules for political ads and said that this process is in the final stage.
