Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut on Monday informed that over 25,000 farmers across the state will get full-time electricity supply during the daytime. This would help the farmers to carry out their work on the field without any hindrance.

Earlier, the government had decided to provide one lakh solar pumps under ‘Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Pump Yojana’. Under this scheme, over one lakh solar pumps are to be provided to farmers in Maharashtra within 3 years and the project was initiated in January 2019.

Raut said that the farmers have been facing problems in power supply at night. The government will set up solar power projects to provide electricity to farmers during day time, the minister added.

The solar AG pumps will be provided to farmers and the solar power projects will be set up near substations of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL) or MahaVitaran.

The minister informed that the solar power projects will be implemented under ‘Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Yojana’ or Chief Minister Solar Agriculture Pump Scheme.

The electricity bills of 80 per cent agricultural consumers are yet to be paid to MSEDCL so that the solar power projects can be implemented. The consumers have been asked to cooperate with MahaVitaran to provide space to set up the projects.
