After the disruption in the voting process for Palghar Lok Sabha by-elections due to the technical failure of EVMs, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut questioned the transparency of the electoral process. He said that failure of EVM machines is a part of the Sama, Dama, Danda, and Bheda strategy. He further added that earlier we saw booth scam and now EVM scam has come out.
Earlier in the day, EVM and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines were abruptly shut down in Palghar and Bhandara-Gondiya bypoll. As this happened, Voters’ resentment and anger were visible and the opposition started questioning the BJP over this issue.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Praful Patel said: “When there are sufficient EVM machines in Maharashtra, why were machines brought down from Surat?” Shiv Sena has also attacked BJP for the same.
For the first time in Bhandara-Gondiya and Palghar Lok Sabha bypolls, the VVPAT machines were used along with the EVMs. However, according to the EC official, EVM machines faced technical difficulties and rejected the possibility of cancellation of the polling.
Earlier, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in a public rally played an audio clip of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in which he was heard saying that we will win elections through any medium. However, CM Fadnavis accused Shiv Sena of editing that clip and said that he would never misuse his power to win the by-election.
Attacking the BJP over this, Sanjay Raut said that “The shut down of EVM machines in the bypolls indicates CM’s statement about Sama, Dama, Danda, and Bheda. To win these polls, the ruling government is misusing its power. Thus, the EVM scam is happening,” adding, “EVM scam is a danger for this country.”
Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress along with Bahujan Vikas Aghadi president Hitendra Thakur have also accused BJP of the same.
