According to latest report, it has come to light that the Project Affected People (PAP) have decided to stage agitation on June 24 to put pressure on the Maharashtra government to name the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) after late socialist D B Patil.

It is the death anniversary of the late socialist Patil on June 24, therefore, this date has been selected for the protest that will be carried out by the PAP of 27 villages of Navi Mumbai under the banner of the All-Party Action Committee (APNC).

This decision was taken by them during a meeting held on Wednesday, May 18. They claimed that it was a long pending demand and the state government is ignoring it.

Reports stated that more than one lakh farmers are expected to join the protest from Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Mumbai. A plan of forming a human chain is underway. However, a decision has not been taken yet.

For those unversed, since the last two years, PAPs of Navi Mumbai under the banner of the All-Party Action Committee (APAC) have been protesting against the state government and CIDCO for not giving the name of NMIA after Patil, who is also a PAPs leader.

Previously, Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, the vice-chairman and managing director of CIDCO stated that the body has been following up with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) in regards to the revaluation of building NOCs approved by them for the construction of buildings in the rehabilitation areas of the NMIA. After this revalidation, CIDCO accorded seven development permissions and gave 34 OCs in certain pockets.
