The recruitment of the Maharashtra Police Department, which has attracted the attention of thousands of youth in Maharashtra, has now brought angst amongst them. There is an atmosphere of resentment among the youth as the GR of police recruitment was cancelled just a few days after it was issued.

The GR, which has been withdrawn by the state government, was issued on January 4. However, the Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, on January 8, took to Twitter and clarified that a new corrigendum will be issued soon for SEBC students to avail the benefit of EWS.

The GR issued by the state Home Department on January 4 stated that SEBC students will be recruited from the open category in police recruitment. It was decided to carry out the recruitment process without SEBC reservation. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that the government will provide relief to the SEBC candidates who have applied for Police Peon Recruitment 2019. A revised government decision will be issued soon to give them the benefit of the decision of the General Administration Department dated December 23, 2020.

Also, the same eligibility criteria will be applied to both the open category as well as the candidates applying from SEBC. The GR also said that candidates who apply from SEBC but meet the criteria of the open category should not be given the reservation.
