Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recommending to move the refinery project planned in Ratnagiri to another location in the coastal district, an official from the CM's office said on Wednesday, March 30, reported the news agency PTI.

Earlier, the project was slated to be constructed in Ratnagiri's Nanar district. However, it has now been stalled owing to opposition from the local organizations as well as the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

The official was quoted in the account elaborating on how Thackeray wrote a letter to the Prime Minister in January about the shifting of the refinery project to another location.

Earlier, on Tuesday, March 29, during his visit to Ratnigiri, state Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray also stated that the refinery project slated to be conducted in Konkan will be built after the locals are consulted and their consent is taken. While interacting with the locals, the environment minister remarked that the project will not be built in Nanar.

According to accounts, Shiv Sena is against the refinery project because they believe the locals are against it. However, on Sunday, March 27, union minister Dharmendra Pradhan is claimed to have uttered that there was hope for the project's revival since the state government was seeming to alter its mind about it.
