The alliance between Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly polls raised criticism from the opposition as well as the smaller allies.

Minister of State (MoS) for Social Justice Athawale on Monday announced that Republican Party of India (RPI) will remain an ally to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Meanwhile, the RPI chief demanded two LS seats in Maharashtra.

We will remain with NDA but we have certain demands. RPI should be given two Lok Sabha seats. We want one LS seat from Mumbai and one from outside the city,” Athawale asserted.

Earlier, RPI chief Ramdas Athawale expressed his discontent against BJP-Shiv Sena alliance for ignoring his party and not giving any LS seat.

Athawale said that he had taken efforts to make Shiv Sena-BJP alliance a reality but his party was abandoned. Moreover, the RPI chief had intended to contest elections from South-Central LS constituency in Mumbai which is with Shiv Sena.
