Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has backed Actress Kangana Ranaut amid the ongoing tussle between her and Shiv Sena. Athawale, Republican Party of India (A) chief, expressed disappointment over the remarks made by Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut.

Raut had earlier said that if Kangana feels unsafe in Mumbai she shouldn’t return to the metropolitan. Later, the actress accused the Shiv Sena leader of threatening her and expressed that Mumbai feels like Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).

This sparked huge outrage as the women workers from Shiv Sena protested against Kangana. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh also slammed the actress saying that those who don’t feel safe in Mumbai have no right to live here.

However, Athawale jumped in Kangana defence and said that the threats issued by Raut were uncalled for. The Union Minister said that he isn’t aware of the entire truth but labelled Raut’s remarks on Kangana as unfortunate.

“Mumbai belongs to all. It is not someone’s personal property. If Shiv Sena resorts to hooliganism, they will be answered in the same tone,” Athawale said.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) distanced itself from Kangana’s remarks comparing Mumbai with POK. Asking Sanjay Raut not to attack BJP, Ashish Shelar said that his party disagrees with Kangana’s comments about Mumbai.

The BJP has been backing the actress over her campaign against the Bollywood and drug mafia nexus. The Union Home Ministry has provided the actress with ‘Y’ security as she plans to reach Mumbai on September 9.

Kangana’s remarks comparing Mumbai with POK have irked several leaders and  Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut was one of them. Raut said that he has no personal issues with the actress, but her comment on comparing Mumbai with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir was not in the right taste.
