'Rajubhai Dhoklawala', a dhokla shop’s signboard in Kandivali West was shattered by Maharashtra NavNirman Sena (MNS) workers because the signboard of the shop was in Gujarati.
The workers had also wrecked many signboards and blacked several signboards which were written in Gujarati. MNS activists said that they had warned the shop owner about getting the signboard changed but he did not pay any attention.
However, Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam condemned the vandalism and said the way of protest by MNS is totally incorrect and unacceptable.
Nirupam said that all the Mumbai groups need to be protected and it is the responsibility of the government.
Therefore, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis must look into the matter and stop all this. He urged that Gujarati businessmen in Mumbai should get protection and accused MNS of creating a divide. MNS has been earlier accused of creating communal tension with the North Indians and now it is with the Gujaratis.
Nirupam said that Congress isn’t against Marathi signboards because it is an old law that any signboard of a shop must be in English, Hindi and Marathi only. He said that if the signboard is in any other language then the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and the Government will take action against them and questions MNS taking matters into their own hands.
