Amid the concerns around rape crimes reported by media houses, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Thursday suggested the authorities in Nagpur University (NU) to teach Sanskrit verses to students to prevent rapes.

While addressing the gathering, Governor Koshyari said rapes are “brutally being committed in the country every other day” while asking the NU authorities to teach their students Sanskrit ‘shlokas’.

According to media reports, Governor Koshyari was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Nagpur University’s Jamnalal Bajaj administrative Bhavan. Koshyari was addressing the crowd when he made remarks on preventing crime against women.

There was a time when ‘Kanya Puja’ would be held at homes. But what is happening in the country now? ‘Dushtras’ (evil) are committing rapes and murders of women. Is power meant for abusing or protecting them?” Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari expressed his concerns

...therefore, students should be taught Sanskrit ‘shlokas’ so that such an event doesn’t take place,” Koshyari added.

Managing Director of Bajaj Electricals, Shekhar Baja was present at the occassion. Governor Koshyari praised the Bajaj family for making donations from their CSR funds.
