Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday took a jibe at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that if BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government had “pure Hindu blood”, it would give Bharat Ratna to late Hindutva icon VD Savarkar.
Raut further taunted BJP saying that the saffron party keeps the photographs of Deendayal Upadhyay, founder of the Indian Jana Sangh, in its offices and buildings all across the country but it has no space for Savarkar.
The Shiv Sena leader, in an article, said that “If the current government possesses 'pure Hindu blood', they should announce Bharat Ratana for Veer Savarkar. Otherwise, the government should declare that its Hindutva practice is only for politics.”
Raut said that after the demand to remove a portrait of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, some organisation are now targeting Savarkar and are asserting on removing Savarkar’s portraits from offices. He even said that the demand to remove Jinnah’s photo was a win for the Hindutva icon.

“It is sad that just because of the demand to remove Jinnah’s painting from the hall of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), some Muslim organisation want to remove Savarkar’s paintings. Those who support Jinnah, despise Savarkar,” Raut claimed. He further added that “the only question is that when will the Hindutva icon get the high civilian award, Bharat Ratna.”
The Shiv Sena is a constituent of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
