Amid the Wadhawan family controversy, Shiv Sena on Monday lashed out at Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and stated that IPS Amitabh Gupta was appointed in the state home department by the senior BJP leader during the previous government.
IPS and Principle Secretary (Home) Amitabh Gupta gave permission to Kapil Wadhawan and Dheeraj Wadhawan - accused in DHLF and Yes Bank fraud - to travel with 21 others to Mahabaleshwar from Khandala amid the lockdown.
Earlier, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed that after discussions with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray the IPS officer was sent on compulsory leave and added that the state government will investigate the role of IPS Amitabh Gupta in connection with the Wadhawan family controversy.
Highlighting that IPS Amitabh Gupta was appointed by Fadnavis during his term as Maharashtra CM, Shiv Sena alleged that this was “conspiracy plot which could not succeed”.
In an editorial published in ‘Saamana’, Shiv Sena stated that it was now clear who is actually behind the decision of IPS Amitabh Gupta and on whose instructions he would have put the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government into a crisis.
“It is now clear and self-explanatory who has been actually behind Gupta’s decision and on who instructions he would have put the MVA government into a crisis. Gupta was appointed by Fadnavis into the home department,” Shiv Sena said in its mouthpiece.
The Wadhawan family and their friends were found violating the lockdown norms amid the coronavirus outbreak. The Mahabaleshwar police detained Kapil Wadhawan and Dheeraj Wadhawan and booked them for negligence.
Fadnavis earlier told that it was not possible that a senior IPS officer would do such mistake on his own despite knowing the consequences. Furthermore, the BJP leader raised questions on the permission granted to Wadhawan family and demanded an explanation from the current government.
