After producing a biopic on Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, SS MP Sanjay Raut will now be producing a biopic on veteran leader Geroge Fernandes. He told PTI that the script is ready and he is in the process of assembling a team for filmmaking which would be released in Marathi and Hindi. The film will focus on the period from the mid-50s to Emergency.

Karnataka resident Fernandes began his political career in Mumbai as a trade union leader. In 1972, while addressing a rally in Mumbai, when the state was facing its worst drought, socialist Fernandes took a newspaper clipping out and read it. The news was about a state cabinet minister celebrating his dog’s birthday. This changed the mood at the rally and the crowd began shouting anti-government slogans.

Prior to this, Arun Sadhu’s Marathi novel Mumbai Dinank featured a character similar to Fernandes called 'D’Casta'. He was also featured in Jabbar Patel-directed film Simhasan.
