“We have a good relationship with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Vijay Wadettiwar’s statement is not tuned with what Rahul Gandhi thinks,” Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said amid the tussle in Congress over leadership issues.

Earlier, Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar said that Congress will withdraw its support to Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state if Rahul Gandhi doesn’t want to continue the alliance.

Reacting to this, Raut said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi doesn’t want to end the alliance in Maharashtra and was in favour of state government running smoothly.

“Rahul Gandhi and we share a good relationship. MVA government in Maharashtra is running under the leadership Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Wadettiwar is aware of the reason. Rahul Gandhi was also involved in the process of forming the alliance,” Raut said while speaking at a press conference in Mumbai.

This comes after Wadettiwar said that the Congress will get out of power in Maharashtra if Gandhi doesn’t want an alliance with Shiv Sena. He confirmed that Gandhi didn’t want to ally with the Shiv Sena to form the government in the state. However, after the common minimum programme (CMP) was decided, Congress agreed to form an alliance with the Sena.

Meanwhile, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) decided that Sonia Gandhi will remain the interim president of the party until the new chief is elected in the next session of All Indian Congress Committee (AICC).

This happened after 23 senior Congress leaders wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi demanding major changes in the party’s working and its leadership. The CWC meeting lasted for seven hours and it was decided that Sonia Gandhi will remain the interim president.

Reacting to the situation, Raut said that Gandhi family was the Aadhar card and said that Rahul can lead his party. Stating that Congress is the main opposition party in the country, the Shiv Sena leader said that the internal issues need to be resolved.

“The demand for someone from outside the Gandhi family to lead the Congress does not seem appropriate in the current situation. Rahul Gandhi has leadership potential. Due to his efforts, Congress came to power in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Gandhi family is the Aadhar card of Congress. This needs to be understood by other leaders,” Raut said.
