The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the assembly elections in Bihar amid the coronavirus outbreak. Labelling it as a “historic election”, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora said that the Bihar elections would be the world’s biggest in corona times.

However, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has criticised the decision to announce elections in Bihar amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He also attacked the Nitish Kumar government and the central government for politicising the death of Bollywood Actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

“Is coronavirus pandemic over in Bihar? The ongoing monsoon session of Parliament has been shortened due to the coronavirus situation. Is this the right time to hold elections in Bihar?” Raut asked.

This comes a day after the Election Commission announced that the Bihar assembly polls will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and 7 amid the coronavirus outbreak. The results will be announced on November 10.

Raut, Shiv Sena chief spokesperson, accused the central government and the Bihar government for politicising the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput saying that it will be an election issue. He said that the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) has already put out posters and has started campaigning in Rajput’s name.

“The Bihar DGP has resigned and will contest the upcoming elections in Bihar. What happened to the CBI probe? The death of SSR is being made an election issue as Bihar government doesn’t have anything to say on development,” Raut said.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik attacked those who criticised Mumbai and Maharashtra while raising the issue of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death as a prelude to the upcoming polls in Bihar.

The result of Bihar elections, Sushant Singh Rajput death case and the report from Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) will be released on November 10, Sarnaik tauntingly said.
