On Tuesday, November 17, two former allies - Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were again up against one another. This time over the preaching of Hindutva across the country.

The Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut slammed the BJP saying that his party will come wielding the sword of Hindutva whenever the country needs it.

Raut also said that his party was and will always be Hindutvawadi. “We don’t need to get our Hindutva certified from any party. We were, we are and we will always be Hindutvawadi. We don’t play Hindutva politics like them. Whenever the country needs us, Shiv Sena will always come forward wielding the sword of Hindutva,” said the Shiv Sena leader.

Raut noted that the country’s politics continues to revolve around the key issues of "sons of the soil and unemployment," which were flagged by Bal Thackeray 55 years ago.

"The pain that Balasaheb is not among us will be there forever. But we are sure he is always with us and will always be there with us and inspire us," Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said after paying tributes to the party's founder.

"His ideology, soul, Hindutva and his Marathi pride will always be there with us forever," Raut added.

However, this isn’t the first time Raut has hit out at the BJP on Hindutava. After the Maharashtra government announced the reopening of religious places in the state from November 16, the BJP had called the move a victory of Hindutva.

“This is not a victory or defeat of anybody,” Raut had said on Sunday. The Shiv Sena leader slammed the party by reminding them that they were shut down on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s instructions.

Shiv Sena ended its decades-old alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party last year to form the government with the help of Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra.
