In the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his family laid the foundation stone for Bal Thackeray memorial on Wednesday at Mumbai’s Mayor residence in Shivaji Park, Dadar. Meanwhile, the documents for the bungalow were submitted to National Memorial Committee.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Maharashtra government granted ₹100 crore funds for the construction of the memorial dedicated to late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. With the success of bhoomipoojan, the work for the same will be started soon. The foundation stone for the memorial was laid on the birth anniversary of the late leader. 

Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Development Authority (MMRDA) has been given the responsibility to construct Bal Thackeray memorial. According to MMRDA sources, the work will take a few months to start after the tender is given to the interested company.

The construction of the memorial was suggested after the demise of Bal Thackeray. However, the work was delayed as it took a long time to search for a place. Finally, the state government and Mumbai’s civic body decided to turn Mayor’s residence into the Bal Thackeray memorial while Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and his house were shifted to Rani Baug in Byculla.
