On Tuesday, January 5, e-commerce giant Amazon moved a civil court in Dindoshi seeking to withdraw its suit against the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and its chief Raj Thackeray over the party's agitation for the use of Marathi language.

There have been several rounds of discussions between Amazon and the MNS in the last few days. MNS leader Akhil Chitre said that Amazon had agreed to withdraw these cases. However, the details of the agreement between them and Amazon cannot be disclosed, he said.

Besides, Amazon has now decided to include Marathi among preferred languages on its app and website so the issue no longer exists, advocate Thakur said.

Advocate Vijay Thakur, appearing for Akhil Chitre, said the court will decide on January 12 whether to accept the application.

After the MNS threatened agitation against Amazon for not providing the option of Marathi for using its app and website and also not using the language on its posters, the company had moved the court. It had sought an order restraining MNS workers from entering its warehouses or offices and threatening or assaulting its employees.

The case escalated after MNS activists broke into Amazon's office in Mumbai's Powai and Sakinaka areas. The MNS had maintained its aggressive stance despite Amazon's subsequent run to court. Moreover, last month, alleged MNS workers had vandalized Amazon's warehouses at Marol in Mumbai's Andheri suburb and in Pune city.
