Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MP Dr Shrikant Shinde wants the Centre to establish a ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Tourism Circuit’ under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme.


Dr Shinde raised the demand in the Lok Sabha, emphasising the need to showcase these sites on national and global platforms, on day seven of Parliament’s Budget Session. Meanwhile, Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has given an assurance of giving the proposal a consideration.

“Integrating these forts into a structured tourism circuit will offer visitors an immersive experience into the valorous history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It will also help future generations understand his legacy,” Dr Shinde said.

Dr. Shinde emphasised the need for the release of pending funds, including INR 122 crore for Sindhudurg district and INR 132 crore for transforming historical tourist sites in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar into a world-class tourism destination. He also sought updates on the approval of conservation and beautification projects for the heritage corridor in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Koyna Nagar Garden, and Koyna Backwater Development. In response, Minister Shekhawat assured that these proposals would be reviewed and approved soon.
