According to the latest reports, protesting workers of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) were detained by the police outside NCP Chief Sharad Pawar's residence. On Friday, April 8, afternoon outside Pawar's residence in Mumbai more than 100 striking workers of the MSRTC conducted a protest.

Based on accounts, the protestors chanted slogans against Pawar and remarked that the politician did not do anything to solve their problems. It has been reported that some staffers even hurled their footwear toward the politician's house. They reportedly added that they are firm on their demand for the MSRTC's merger with the Maharashtra government.

Following this, state Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil was quoted in narratives elaborating on how he has instructed Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey and joint commissioner, law and order, Vishwas Nangre Patil to take strict action against those responsible. Patil reportedly added that someone has misled the MSRTC workers and that the protest is being backed by someone else.

MSRTC workers have been on strike since November 2021 amid their demand of being treated at par with the state government employees and want the transport corporation to be merged with the government.

This latest protest by the MSRTC staffers comes a day after the Bombay High Court asked the striking personnel to resume duty by April 22. After this order, even state transport minister Anil Parab assured that action will not be taken against those who rejoin duty in accordance with the deadline put by the Bombay HC.
