Amid the ongoing Maharashtra budget session, Congress leader and former MLA from Chandivali, Naseem Khan has demanded the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra to bring out a resolution against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).

While speaking to the reporters, Naseem Khan said that the Uddhav Thackeray government should pass a resolution against the implementation of NPR on the lines of Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar.

“Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra should pass an anti-NRC and NPR resolution on similar lines as the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar,” said Naseem Khan.

Khan further asserted that the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government should clear its stand on the NRC and NPR issue while demanding that the census should be carried out as per the 2010 rules.

“The census should be carried out as per the 2010 rules and not as an NPR exercise. NPR is the first step to the NRC. This will affect the people, especially the poor,” the Congress leader said.

After his meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Khan was assured by the CM that decision on NPR and NRC will be taken after discussions with the concerned authorities and alliance partners.

“The Chief Minister was positive about the issue and said that a decision will be taken in the next two to three days after discussion with all the parties in the alliance,” Khan informed.
