The Kalaburagi Police has issued a notice against All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Waris Pathan over his controversial remark which he made while addressing an anti-CAA rally in Karnataka.

Pathan, former MLA from Byculla in Mumbai, has been asked to appear before the concerned investigating authorities on February 29. The notice has been issued against Pathan over his “15 crore...” remark.

“We have served notice to Waris Pathan over his ‘15 crore...’ remarks to appear before the investigation officer on February 29 and give his statement,” Kalaburagi Police Commissioner MN Nagaraj.

While addressing a rally earlier, Pathan had said, “we are 15 crore but can give a fitting reply to 100 crore”.

“They tell us that we have kept our women in the front. Only the lionesses have come out and you’re already sweating. You can understand what would happen if all of us come together. We maybe 15 crore but can give a fitting reply to 100 crore. We will snatch out freedom,” AIMIM spokesperson Waris Pathan said while addressing a public gathering on February 16.

Waris Pathan had refused to apologise for his "15 crore Muslims..." statement and blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for making such remarks. In his defence, the AIMIM spokesperson said that he will be the last person to talk against the country or religion.

Pathan’s remarks sparked massive outrage in the opposition as well as on social media. Many have denounced the statement made by the AIMIM leader. According to media reports, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi barred him from speaking to the media until further notice.
