Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the CAA as a shield to divert attention from a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on CIDCO’s infrastructure works in Navi Mumbai.

The CAG report has alleged irregularity in the infrastructure projects undertaken by City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) during the previous BJP-led government in Maharashtra. However, Fadnavis had dismissed the charges.

While speaking to the reporters in Vidhan Bhavan complex, Maharashtra Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spokesperson, Nawab Malik raised suspicion over the alleged ₹2,500 crore scam in the works carried out by CIDCO during the previous Devendra Fadnavis-led government in the state.

Earlier, Fadnavis said that there is a lot of confusion in Maharashtra over CAA because different party leaders and ministers of the MVA government are giving contradictory statements.

“There’s a lot of confusion among the leaders and people of Maharashtra which needs clarification. The MVA government should clear their stand on the floor of the house about their views on the CAA,” Fadnavis said.

Reacting to this, Nawab Malik said that people from all over the country have been protesting against the newly amended citizenship law since the central government passed it in Parliament.

“Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking support for the CAA across the country, the legislation has been opposed. However, the BJP leaders are not ready to accept the same,” said Nawab Malik.

The BJP in Maharashtra intends to bring an ordinance in favour of the CAA in an attempt to corner the three-party MVA government on the issue.
