The hearing in the Supreme Court regarding the BMC elections in the state has now been postponed till April 10 and there is a confusion as to when these elections will be held.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi government's decision to increase the number of wards and corporators on the assumption of population growth and the Shinde-Fadnavis government's decision to reverse it, the state government's decision to take the power of ward formation instead of the State Election Commission, such petitions in the Supreme Court on some issues including whether to give OBC reservation in 92 municipalities are pending.

The petitions were listed on the agenda of a three-judge bench of Chief Justice Dr. Dhananjay Chandrachud, Justice P. S. Narasimha and Justice J.B. Pardiwala on Tuesday. However, the petitions were not heard on Tuesday as Chief Justice Chandrachud was busy with the work of the Constitution Bench.

Therefore, on behalf of the applicants, Adv. Devdutt Palodkar requested the Chief Justice to hear the petitions again on Wednesday. The hearing has now been fixed for April 10. Court hearings have been delayed several times. Therefore, even if the court gives its decision on April 10, doubts are expressed whether it will be possible for the State Election Commission to hold elections in May on an immediate basis.
