The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faced a turbulent political scenario as its leaders addressed a gathering in Mumbai. The party's Working President, Supriya Sule, issued a stern warning, emphasizing the need to avoid disrespecting their father and veteran politician, Sharad Pawar. The event unfolded amidst a backdrop of accusations, counter-accusations, and a power struggle with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra.
Condemning BJP's Alleged Corruption
Sule launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, labeling it as the most corrupt party in the country. With determination, she declared that the fight was against the BJP government, highlighting their alleged involvement in corrupt practices. Sule warned that while they could be disrespected, it was crucial to refrain from insulting Sharad Pawar, underscoring his stature as an esteemed leader.
Allegations of Political Intimidation
The NCP leader further accused the BJP, along with Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde-led government, of employing various government agencies such as Income Tax, CBI, and Enforcement Directorate to intimidate NCP MLAs. Sule claimed that these tactics were aimed at destabilizing the party. However, she assured the gathered supporters that the NCP would respond effectively to counter such measures in due course.
Age is Just a Number
Responding to Ajit Pawar's suggestion that Sharad Pawar should retire due to his age, Supriya Sule put forth a compelling argument. She stressed that age was merely a number and cited examples of renowned personalities such as Ratan Tata, Amitabh Bachchan, and Cyrus Punawala, who continued to be active and contribute to society despite their advanced years. Sule sought to convey that as long as an individual had the will and determination, they could make a significant impact regardless of their age.
Daughters as Strong Supporters
In an emotional appeal, Supriya Sule highlighted the role of daughters as pillars of support for their fathers in times of need. She expressed her belief that instead of relegating daughters to the role of bestowing blessings while staying at home, they should be encouraged to actively engage and provide crucial support when the family's well-being is at stake. This statement struck a chord with the audience, emphasizing the importance of empowering daughters and recognizing their potential in contributing to their fathers' welfare.
Ajit Pawar's Power Play
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar, a prominent leader within the NCP, openly expressed his desire for Sharad Pawar to retire and pass on the reins of leadership to him. While acknowledging his respect for his uncle, he voiced his concerns about being portrayed negatively within the party. Ajit Pawar suggested that retirement would allow the new generation to rise, comparing it to the retirement of BJP leaders such as LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi. He urged Sharad Pawar to provide his blessings and cautioned against being obstinate.
Show of Strength and Political Division
During the gathering, it became apparent that the NCP was facing internal divisions. The Ajit Pawar faction showcased the support of 31 MLAs, whereas a separate meeting led by Sharad Pawar gathered only 13 MLAs. This display of contrasting numbers emphasized the factionalism within the party and added further complexity to the political landscape.
