Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday, October 28, took a jibe against the central government in a satirical manner for raising fuel prices.

Earlier in the day, while interacting with the audience at a workshop, Thackeray said that the fuel price hike was done for the benefit of the common man.

“No one likes to drive in a traffic jam. The central government has also noticed that the percentage of passengers in public transport is declining, so it has started raising fuel prices, petrol-diesel prices, it is happening for our benefit. You may think that I am speaking critically, but you say, it is not possible for people to turn to public transport, we do not even notice that fuel prices are going up for good reasons,” said the Chief Minister at the event.

A workshop was organized by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), on the future transport plan in and around Mumbai. Amid the ongoing pandemic, concern was expressed over the declining number of passengers traveling by public transport in the Mumbai metropolitan area. Therefore, MMRDA officials ensured that steps are being taken to strengthen the public transport system to increase this number.

Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde clarified the need for good roads in Mumbai metropolis and the state. He hoped that this would accelerate the development in the state.

Shinde also expressed the view that it is necessary to strengthen the public transport system considering the number of vehicles in the Mumbai metropolis.

The MMRDA's workshop will discuss the future of public transport in the Mumbai metropolis and determine the direction.
