Taking a step back from the decision to make the third language compulsory for the time being, the state government has decided to hold discussions with all stakeholders.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted that the final decision regarding the three-language formula will be taken only after discussing it with literary figures, language experts, political leaders and all other stakeholders.
After consultation with everyone, a decision will be made on whether to make a third language compulsory for students from class 1 onwards. Fadnavis has directed the School Education Department to complete the discussions within a week.
A meeting regarding the trilingual formula was held at Fadnavis' Varsha residence on Monday night. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, School Education Minister Dada Bhuse, Minister of State Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar and officials from the education department were present on the occasion.

It was decided in the meeting that this should be presented to all stakeholders, including Marathi language scholars, literary figures, political leaders, and a consultation process should be carried out. Fadnavis said that a final decision will be taken only after this consultation process is completed.
Therefore, School Education Minister Dada Bhuse will now start the process of consultation with all stakeholders. Therefore, a decision regarding the mandatory third language is likely to be taken in a week or two, said high-ranking sources.
