BJP Minority Morcha on Tuesday announced that it will distribute one lakh diyas in Mumbai to help spread the message of love and amity on Diwali. Out of five lakh diyas, one lakh will be distributed by the Mumbai members, as per the morcha president Waseem Khan.

This decision was taken since it is the first Diwali after the Supreme Court cleared the way for constructing Ram Temple in Ayodhya. This gesture is intended to reach out to lakhs of citizens with a goodwill message. According to Khan, no gift can be better than diyas which symbolize light against darkness and good against bad.

In an attempt to promote Narendra Modi’s “vocal for local” campaign, BJP Mumbai president Mangal Prabhat Lodha inaugurated the "Swadeshi Bazaar" on Monday, initiated by the morcha. However, through this bazaar essentials will be made available to people on subsidised rate.

The morcha volunteers are reaching out mostly to the underprivileged section of the citizens living mostly in slums. Since the poor were hardest hit due to the pandemic-induced lockdown, the party decided to make life a bit easier for them.

The BMC has appealed to the public not use sanitisers before or while bursting firecrackers or lighting diyas. At that time, it has recommended the use of water and soap instead as sanitisers are inflammable.

Ahead of Diwali, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday imposed a ban on bursting crackers in the city till November 30.

However, the civic body has permitted the use of less polluting or mild firecrackers like anar, fuljhari for children within the society premises or outside their house on the evening of Laxmi Pujan, that is, November 14.
