According to the latest reports, Maharashtra chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray is anticipated to discuss the path ahead on the Supreme Court's (SC) order regarding the quota for the Other Backward Classes (OVC) with the Madhya Pradesh (MP) chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Based on accounts, a senior minister elaborated on how the two CMs are expected to discuss the possibility of coming together to solve the problem and restore the OBC quota.
It has been reported that on Tuesday, May 10, the SC asked the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission to commence the election procedure for the local body polls in two weeks. This comes in the aftermath of the SEC asking the Maharashtra Election Commission, last Wednesday, to notify the election schedule for local body polls in two weeks in accordance with the earlier delimitation process.
Narratives suggest that on Wednesday, the Maharashtra cabinet discussed the OBC quota issue wherein Thackeray declared that he would discuss it with the MP CM. Reports have quoted an MVA minister claiming how the state election commission has told the SC that the pre-election preparations would be ready by September-October. The minister added that by then the State Backward Class Commission's report will be ready.
Moreover, reports allege that another minister elaborated on how Thackeray was anticipated to discuss with his MP counterpart the compilation of the empirical data as well as the legal steps that need to be done in the SC to ensure that the OBC quota is safeguarded.
Certain accounts added that Jitendra Awhad, the state housing minister, following the cabinet meeting elucidated that the decision in the MP and Maharashtra cause means it could be applicable to India. Therefore, it would remove 54 per cent of India's community from the mainstream. He reportedly uttered that the resolution to hold local body polls across India without the OBC quota would hinder its development.
