After Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Union Budget in Parliament, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray expressed his displeasure stating that the Union budget is a big disappointment for Mumbai and the state.

CM Uddhav Thackeray said that the budget doesn't provide any allocation for ongoing Metro project and local trains in Mumbai. The Union budget gives "step-motherly" treatment to Maharashtra and doesn't do justice to Mumbai, CM Thackeray added.

"The budget is unjust for Maharashtra and Mumbai. There is no allocation for Metro projects or local trains which is the lifeline of people living in Mumbai. This is clear discrimination against Maharashtra in the budget," CM Uddhav Thackeray.

While stating that the budget was far away from reality, CM Thackeray said that secondary treatment has been accorded to Maharashtra in the Union budget which was presented by FM Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday.

"The Centre is strengthening Internation Finance centres in Gujarat, but there was no mention of the same in Mumbai which is the financial capital of the country," Thackeray said.

The Maharashtra CM also mentioned that the decision to divest a stake in LIC and possible privatisation of the railways depicts the "pathetic" state of the economy.

"The privatisation of LIC and railway has exposed the pathetic state of the economy. The growth rate for the current fiscal is five per cent. To achieve 10 per cent growth rate is unrealistic. This growth doesn't have to the potential to achieve the dream of making India a $5 trillion economy," said CM Thackeray.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also pointed out that the fund allocation for the agricultural sector is a marginal increase as compared to the last budget.
