Hours after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar met Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Monday evening visited Pawar at the latter’s residence in Delhi.

While talking to the media, Raut said that he met Pawar to discuss agricultural problems, among other issues and expressed confidence that soon they will have a government in place.

The Shiv Sena MP attacked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that the President's rule in Maharashtra was not because of his party.

...the responsiblity to form the government was not ours, the one who had that responsiblity ran away. However, I am confident that soon we will have a government in place,” said Sanjay Raut.

Raut further informed that he had asked Pawar to lead a delegation of leaders to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss the plight of farmers in Maharashtra.

Earlier in the day, after his 45-minute-long meeting with Sonia Gandhi, Pawar stated that he didn’t discuss government formation in Maharashtra.

I had a meeting with the Congress President and Ak Antony was present there. We discussed the situation and numbers. I just briefed her about the political situation in Maharashtra. We did not discuss other issues,” said Pawar while talking to the media in Delhi.

Pawar’s meeting comes a day after NCP core committee in Pune decided that the President’s rule should end and an alternative government should be formed.

The NCP chief was in Delhi for the first day of the winter session of Parliament and met Sonia Gandhi in the evening. The meeting between the two (Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi) had been speculated as crucial for government formation in Maharashtra.
