Mumbai – Post BMC results, everyone's waiting for mayor elections which will take place on 9th March 2017. Shiv Sena and Bhartiya Janta Party, both the parties are trying their best to field their candidate for the mayor post. According to some political experts, the Sena is likely to come in power following Yashwant Jadhav as a mayor.

In BMC elections 2017, the Sena bagged 84 seats, BJP 82 seats, MNS 7 seats, NCP 9 seats, Congress 31 seats, Akhil Bhartiya Sena one seat, MIM two seats, and Independent candidates bagged five seats. Along with Yashwant Jadhav, Ashish Chemburkar, Mangesh Satamkar, and Ramesh Korgonkar are in the race for mayor post. If Sena decides to field woman candidate then, Vishakha Raut, Rajul Patel, Shubhda Gudekar, and Kishori Pednekar stand a chance.

In 2002, when mayor post was held for reserved category, Shiv Sena’s Mahadev Deole and Yashwant Jadhav were the suggested names for mayor post. However, Bal Thackeray then chose Deole over Jadhav and the latter lost the chance. Last BMC elections, mayor post was reserved for female and Jadhva’s wife Yamini Jadhav, Snehal Ambekar, and Bharti Bavdane were in the race. Here also, Jadhav’s wife lost the mayor post to Snehal Ambekar. And now it’s 2017, when once again Jadhav has got the chance of becoming a mayor.

It is being said that Yashwant Jadhav, Satamkar, and Korgaonkar are in the race for mayor post while Vishakha Raut and Rajul Patel can be elected as a leader of the house. Ramesh Korgankar and Mangesh Satamkar have more chances of getting elected as standing committee chairman.

Though Congress 31 corporators won, only Asif Zakaria and Ravi Raja will be competing for the group leaders post. Likewise in BJP, Manoj Kotak, NCP Kaptan Malik, and MNS Dilip Lande might get appointed as a group leader of their respective party.
