The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is looking to redevelop Motilal Nagar in Goregaon. It had earlier floated tenders seeking a developer to carry out the said redevelopment work, stated reports.

Now, in a pre-bid meeting, popular real estate players have shown interest in the project. It includes firms like Kalpataru, Shirke Group, L&T, and Adani. An official from MHADA said that the last day to open all the bids is Wednesday, December 15. This will give them more clarity.

Goregaon's Motilal Nagar is one of the oldest housing clusters of the 1960s. It comprises ground plus one structure chawls and slums.

As per the MHADA tender, there are 3,717 rehab tenements. While there are a total of 1,600 slum tenements.

The appointed developer will have to provide new rehab houses to these tenants. At present, people mainly belonging to economically weaker sections stay at Motilal Nagar. Reportedly, this year in September, the Maharashtra government had cleared the proposal Motilal Nagar redevelopment project. Post this, MHADA started the tendering process.

An official said that they would carry out the project in a phase-wise manner. They have been given a deadline of seven years to complete the project.
