Despite Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority’s (MAHARERA) order, a lot of builders are delaying their projects and giving out excuses such as demonetisation and GST.

Recently, Sheth group, who delayed the project and gave the reason of demonetisation was pulled up by MAHARERA. The latter also pardoned 5 per cent of the pending amount.

What's The Story?

In January 2016, Neha Agrawal bought a flat in Sheth Group’s 'Sheth Midori' tower. While buying a house, she paid 95 per cent of the booking amount. As per the agreement, she was going to get the possession in October 2016 but that did not work out. When she enquired about the same with the builder, he ignored her.

Neha Agrawal approached MAHARERA

Even after waiting for a year, she did not get the possession in October 2017. Enraged and upset, she approached MAHARERA’s president Gautam Chatterjee who conducted a hearing on January 30. Upon asking the reason for the delay, the builder defended himself adding that demonetisation, lack of workers and rains lead to the delay of the project.

MAHARERA officials were not pleased with the excuse and asked the builder to handover the flat by March 31, 2018, and also pardoned the remaining 5 per cent pending amount.
