Nifty Closes Above 15,700, Sensex Gains More Than 150 Points

The Benchmark indices ended with minor gains after a range bound trading session on 2nd July 2021. BSE Small cap index outperformed the benchmark.

At close, the Sensex was up 166.07 points or 0.32 per cent at 52,484.67 and the Nifty was up 42.40 points or 0.27 per cent at 15,722.20.

About 1874 shares have advanced, 1279 shares declined and 120 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Gland (2.83 per cent), Divis Labs (1.89 per cent), ICICI Bank (1.49 per cent), Reliance (1.48 per cent) and Coal India (1.37 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Tata Steel (-2.37 per cent), Britannia (-1.40 per cent), JSW Steel (-1.36 per cent), Power Grid Corp (-1.23 per cent) and Hindalco (-0.88 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, Metal and Power indices shed 1 per cent each, while Infra, Pharma and Banking indices ended in green.

The BSE Smallcap and Midcap indices were up 1.01 per cent and 0.05 per respectively.

Author’s View: Nifty is showing range bound movement from past few days. If Nifty breaks above 15,900 we may see it moving towards 16,100 – 16,200. On the downside if Nifty breaks below 15,550 we might see a further downward momentum till 15,250.
