In a democratic country like India, ‘Freedom of speech’ has a different meaning as politics consumes that freedom. Time and again, people who go against the system and try to voice out their opinion on matters which the people in power perceive to be “anti-national”, have suffered.

The most recent victim of this turmoil is comedian Kunal Kamra, who is famous for his stand up acts on patriotism and the government in today's India, has been asked to move out of his home due to his involvement in political issues. His podcast 'Shut Up Ya Kunal' sarcastically throws light on the political system in India.

Kunal took to Facebook to express his situation with his landlady as the WhatsApp screenshot states that he’s being asked to move out due to the various “political issues coming up”.

Kamra goes on to share how organisers took away gigs from him because they expected guests in power “who they can't piss off” as his satirical content on politics and politicians in India (which is 100% accurate) could be offensive.

The comedian goes on to talk about the hypocrisy of public figures who continuously told him that they love his work but never rooted for him. Kamra's message to young comedians asking them to "choose wisely" the kind of comedians they want to become is a powerful reflection of how India is still not ready to take creative work in stride.

Here's his Facebook post

If people like Kunal Kamra are oppressed and shrugged off as the enemies of the nation, India's development and progress is in real doubt.
