Tata Mumbai marathon: Number of medical treatments decline this year

Around 2,300 out of 44,407 participants sought treatment during the marathon this year. Two patients were treated at the Bombay hospital where one suffered a paralysis attack and the other suffered dizziness. No deaths were reported.

Mumbai Marathon is one of the most awaited events of the years for many aspiring and enthusiastic runners. The event this year was held on Sunday, where many people from around the world, participated in the run. Over the last 14 years, doctors of Asian Heart Institute have been treating many runners, who injure themselves or seek medical aid during the marathon. This year too, a team of 500 doctors were present at the marathon for treatment.

As per the report received, around 2,300 out of 44,407 participants were treated with some medical needs. However, doctor's said that the number of patients were less, in comparison to the participants who were injured last year.


Six participants suffered de-hydration and four of them were sent to the nearby hospital. After the basic check-up, they got a discharge," Dr Vijay D'Silva, MD, Asian Heart Institute.

Reports further confirm that two participants were sent to the Bombay Hospital for treatment, where one suffered a paralysis attack and the other was treated for dizziness. Almost 15 other runners suffered dehydration and were helped with Intravenous fluid therapy, and some were helped by physiotherapists. 

Only 5 per cent runners were in need of the medical treatment and the best part was no one died in this year's marathon," Dr Nilesh Gautam, doctor, Asian Heart Institute.
